Really, breeding springtails is perhaps the easiest way to get a strong clean up crew going in a reptile or amphibian enclosure. Inevitably, clean up crew (CUC) number crashes are going to occur in the first few of establishing a bioactive vivarium, particularly those designed as homes for reptiles from a more arid environment. It is therefore paramount to have backup custodians at your disposal to top up the CUC as and when required, which is why knowing how to breed springtails - and other members of the CUC, like isopods - is essential for those wishing to set up a bioactive tank.
