Not long ago it was a well-held belief that a bioactive tank could only ever be a suitable home for a small, humidity-loving herp, like a dart frog or crested gecko. However, if you put enough consideration into selecting your clean up crew and maintaining the vivarium, there is no cause to suggest that even reptiles from desert environments cannot benefit from a bioactive setup. The next step down would be a naturalistic enclosure, but the benefits of having a complete ecosystem within the setup (including woodlice, springtails, and other additions like mealworms) put bioactive cages well in the lead, or at least as I see it.
