Today tactical umbrellas or unbreakable umbrellas were used as tools for self defence and so they were since the beginning.
Percy Longhurst wrote a book about self-defense in the street in 1906 called "Jiu-Jitsu and Other Methods of Self Defense". And even back then the umbrella was a self defence tool as it were an edc as today. But at this time also the walking stick was an edc and many masters taught it's use. A friend of Longhurst was Pierre Vigny who taught his walking cane method at the Bartitsu club in London.
