Finally! I was able to locate an Eastern Red-Backed Salamander! For much of the spring, I was hot on their trail, but they eluded me for quite some time. In this episode, I finally found one, and this happens to be the "lead phase" variety of the Red-Backed Salamander. Thus, I found a Red-Backed Salamander...without a red back! Still very much a success, and man, these guys are adorable!

Herp Quest is a series dedicated to celebrating and learning all about herpetology (reptiles and amphibians). Whether they be our cold-blooded friends in our back yards, out in the field, or even some of the ones we cherish as pets, if it's a reptile or amphibian, it's definitely something I want to learn more about. Let's learn some herpetology together!
