"I Would Die 4 You"
I was writing a song about dying, when I noticed that everyone who writes or sings about death, dies ... and usually tragically.
Prince was a singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist who combined R&B, funk and pop to create the Minneapolis sound.
After a few minor hits, Prince smashed the charts with his song/movie "Purple Rain" in 1984. The movie concludes with a performance of I Would Die 4 You/Baby I'm a Star. His 1985 album featured the obsessive love song Condition of the Heart.
In 2016, Prince died when his heart stopped after an accidental overdose of fentanyl at his Paisley Park home/recording studio in Minnesota. Prince was 57 years old.
Side Note: I quickly reworked the theme of my tune to be about returning home through space and time (totally not dying). I then dropped the lyrics and turned the melody into a guitar instrumental. That should be safe (youtu.be/1FuUKGrjEGY)!
