"All that you know now, You must lay it to rest, Sacred realms that await you, Sleep and Death"
I was writing a song about dying, when I noticed that everyone who writes or sings about death, dies ... and usually tragically.
As the lead vocalist for the band Huntress, Jill Janus drove the band to combine classic heavy metal with influences of thrash and dark metal. The songs featured frequent screaming by Janus, who was classically trained and had a vocal range of four octaves.
Each of the three Huntress albums include a song about death, starting with the 2012 song Sleep and Death.
Janus suffered from mental health issues, and had been living with bipolar disorder since her early teens. She attempted suicide on several occassions and in 2018, she took her own life.
Side Note: I quickly reworked the theme of my tune to be about returning home through space and time (totally not dying). I then dropped the lyrics and turned the melody into a guitar instrumental. That should be safe (youtu.be/1FuUKGrjEGY)!
