"I'm Ready to Die"
I was writing a song about dying, when I noticed that everyone who writes or sings about death, dies ... and usually tragically.
Known as The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie's lyrics were semi-autobiographical, telling of hardship/criminality, but also of debauchery and celebration. Biggie became ensnarled in the escalating East Coast–West Coast hip hop feud and following Tupac Shakur's murder there was speculation of his involvement as a result of his public feud with Shakur.
In 1997 (six months after 2Pac's murder), Biggie was killed in a drive-by shooting in L.A. He was 24. Biggie's 1994 album, Ready to Die, was followed by the album Life After Death, 2 weeks after his death.
Side Note: I quickly reworked the theme of my tune to be about returning home through space and time (totally not dying). I then dropped the lyrics and turned the melody into a guitar instrumental. That should be safe (youtu.be/1FuUKGrjEGY)!
