"I Died a Hundred Times"
I was writing a song about dying, when I noticed that everyone who writes or sings about death, dies ... and usually tragically.
In 2003, Amy Winehouse released her first album: Frank. With her success came a very public battle with substance abuse (both drinking and drugs).
In 2007, Winehouse released her second album: Back to Black, with a video of her in funeral attire. Many of the songs dealt with her own challenges, including several references to death (Rehab mentions Donnie Hathaway who died from suicide).
In July 2011, Winehouse's bodyguard found her lifeless body in her bedroom. She died of alcohol poisoning after a three day drinking binge.
Side Note: I quickly reworked the theme of my tune to be about returning home through space and time (totally not dying). I then dropped the lyrics and turned the melody into a guitar instrumental. That should be safe (youtu.be/1FuUKGrjEGY)!
