The DX-17 is highly reliable and is NOT BB sensitive. The Crosman PSM45 and 340 are more accurate and more powerful - but more can go wrong, and they need the right ammo to function reliably.
EXAMPLES OF DX-17 STRINGS:
Using Umarex Zinc BBs, which deliver reliable accuracy, here are some string examples from a day out in the field. True 4 yards (measured from the front of the gun).
#1 15 shots, 5 out of 6 cans down.
That is below average for this pistol. If you put 6 pop cans out and have a good grip and trigger pull mechanics, an average string should be 4 or 5 BBs left over after knocking down 6 cans.
🎉After this bad string, I actually followed up with a GRAND SLAM! 6 for 6! 🎉
#2 Going with 3 cans can improve the chances of a good string, but there is no guarantee. So, in this episode, I fired 4 times - and suffered 4 misses.
🎉I said screw it and started over with 6 cans. The string concluded with 6 cans hit with only ONE miss.!🎉
There are times when you are on the verge of a grand slam, whether 4 cans or 6 cans, but on the LAST can standing, you miss 4 times!
The DX-17 is a roller coaster ride. That is fine if you go with the flow and cheer up. Enjoy simple fun!
WHAT WORKS FOR ME
▶️ Put the front sight under the can, slightly favoring the right side.
▶️ Pick up the slack on the trigger, PULL through stage one, pause, and then aim and shoot. Get good at doing that fast, and you will get into a shooting groove.
▶️Use left finger on trigger guard and gently push grip into your right palm. This is done for BB spring pistol stability.
