Jon “Dutch” Vander was a Rebel pilot from Onderon, the same system as Saw Gerrera. He was originally an Imperial pilot who defected after he refused to bomb his own people. By the year two BBY he was the leader of Gold Squadron in the Massassi Group rebel cell. When Mon Mothma delivered a speech holding Emperor Palpatine responsible for the Ghorman Massacre, rebel agent Cassian Andor got her to safety. She was picked up by another ship and Gold Squadron escorted her to Dantooine. With the help of Phoenix Squadron, they evaded the Empire and Mothma gave another speech rallying the various rebel cells into a unified alliance. Dutch continued serving as Gold Leader for two more years, fighting in the Battle of Scarif to steal the Death Star plans, and then giving his life attempting to destroy the superweapon. #starwars
