In mid December 2025 my wife and I took a trip to the four corners region of the southwestern US, and one of our stops was in Durango Colorado for a few days to ride the D&S Cascade Winter Train. While staying in town, I was treated every evening to the beautiful whistles of the former Rio Grande mikados pulling the Polar Express traps in the evening.
This video has clips from Dec 12th through 14th 2025. First off is 482 crossing the Animas River in downtown Durango on the evening of the 13th. The sharp loud whistle was because there was a person standing on the tracks trying to get photos....
Next up is 476 Departing the Durango depot crossing college street for the first run of the evening of the 12th.
Last is 482 again, this time on the night of the 14th crossing the intersection of 15th St and 2nd Ave.
