On July 1, 2025, Florida Highway Patrol troopers spotted a dark SUV drifting between lanes, braking for no reason, and traveling unusually slow on I-75 near Punta Gorda. When the trooper activated emergency lights to conduct a stop, the driver initially slowed — then suddenly took off.
What followed was a 28-mile chase from Charlotte County into Lee County, with speeds exceeding 100 MPH for most of the pursuit. Troopers attempted a PIT maneuver at highway speed (around 86 MPH) — but the driver kept running.
During the pursuit, the SUV:
Weaved through traffic at triple-digit speeds
Dodged marked patrol cars attempting to slow it down
Blew through a red light at roughly 60 MPH on the exit ramp
And even threw a black plastic bag out of the driver’s window — which was never recovered
The chase finally ended on Colonial Boulevard after a second PIT maneuver successfully disabled the vehicle.
The driver was identified as Gloria Denise King, age 33.
After the arrest, troopers reported a strong odor of alcohol, slow and lethargic speech, and King ultimately refused to provide a breath sample — even after implied consent.
But here’s the part that makes this case especially disturbing:
👉 King already has a prior conviction for fleeing law enforcement.
👉 She is also currently on release status for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
This wasn’t just a reckless joyride — this was a repeat offender making another dangerous decision on busy public roads.
