A routine traffic stop on New Year’s night quickly turned into a devastating high-speed police pursuit — reaching speeds over 100 MPH on dark rural roads in Dane County, Wisconsin.
What started as a suspicious vehicle stop escalated in seconds, as the driver chose not to pull over and fled from officers. Deputies moved in to assist, including an attempt to deploy spike strips to stop the vehicle.
Moments later, the pursuit came to a sudden and devastating end when the SUV left the roadway and crashed into a tree. The impact was so severe that the engine was torn from the vehicle and thrown dozens of feet away.
This real police footage captures how quickly a high-speed chase can spiral out of control — and how little room there is for error at those speeds.
