With funding through UK Research and Innovation's (UKRI) Future Flight Programme, the Woodland Trust have partnered with Autospray Systems to trial new regenerative approaches to land management and habitat restoration to benefit wildlife.
Working with the Hepple Estate in Northumberland, we have been able to use new drone technology to disperse a wide range of native tree and shrub seeds to extensive areas of moorland and upland, particularly those which are unsuitable for planting using conventional tree planting practices, due to their remoteness and steep slopes.
This long term project will monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of this method of tree establishment and, in doing do, support the Hepple Estate with their long term aim of habitat restoration, which includes the creation of scrubby woodland.
