This is the old summer road that used to connect Siglufjörður and Skagafjörður district to Ólafsfjörður and Eyjafjörður. The middle part of it (Mt. Lágheiði) is only open during summers but it matters less now as there are 4 road tunnels on the peninsula now. This is therefore mainly a highway for the local farmers and tourist operations.
