This was the annual show in Akureyri, a town of 20.000 and the show in Reykjavik doesn't get any better than this. I shot this with sound with my Nikon running in the car park where I took off from, as it's a bit tricky to fly a drone in this area. The sound should describe the buildup better than the footage but I took off at 23:45 and used text insert to say when it's midnight or just about when the show peaks. The filming ends around 5 minutes later, but this goes on for almost 30 minutes every year and as always, some people, or residential streets, are more aggressive than others.
There has obviously been a certain amount of pressure to reduce pollution from fireworks, but this is the main source of income for Icelandic rescue teams who sell around 90% of all fireworks in the country. This is therefore a bit complicated issue to solve, and utnil then, this is and will continue to be a tourist sensation as well. Happy New Year from Akureyri, North Iceland.
