Driving California's Forbidden Highway 39 - Closed for 45 Years @AdventureEveryDay

Scenic drive on California Highway 39 (Also known as California's Lost or Forbidden Highway ) in both directions through San Gabriel Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains. We begin in Azusa, California and drive the complete length of the canyon to the locked gate where the last 4.4 miles of the road have been closed for the last 45 years due to rock slide damage. We also drive through the Crystal Lake Recreation Area and Campground.

While we were exploring a bit beyond the locked gate a Caltrans truck came driving down the closed portion of the road from the north. We chatted with the friendly Caltrans workers who told us that they actually keep the closed portion of Highway 39 maintained and it's kept drivable so that fire crews can access the area, and that they keep the road closed to the public due to the frequent rock slides in that area. When the crew unlocked the gate to pass through and continue south, we asked if they'd let us quickly drive through and record the closed section up to Highway 2, but unfortunately they couldn't allow it.

Driving Cottonwood Canyon Road to Kodachrome Basin 4K In this video, we’re leaving the pavement behind at U.S. Highway 89 and heading north on the legendary Cottonwood Canyon Road in southern Utah. This 40+ mile dirt track cuts straight through the heart of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, traversing the dramatic Cockscomb fold and some of the most surreal, alien-like landscapes in the American Southwest. The drive is a masterclass in desert geology—from towering white monoliths and deep red canyons to the jagged ridges that look like they belong on another planet. After navigating the rugged washboards and winding turns, we arrive at Kodachrome Basin State Park just as the golden hour light begins to set the sandstone chimneys and spires aglow. Whether you’re planning your own Utah adventure or just looking for a peaceful, immersive escape into the desert solitude, sit back and enjoy this other-worldly ride. This drive was filmed in April, and the vibrant spring vegetation adds a nice contrast to the Mars-like landscapes. The condition of the road was overall good, but there were some washboarded sections that were quite harsh. We recommend a vehicle with decent ground clearance, and this definitely isnt a road to try after a recent rain, even with 4 wheel drive. We drive all the main roads and off-road trails in the parks before ending our scenic drive in the city of Tucson. This video was filmed in late March. We split this video up into multiple sections instead of one long drive straight through the parks. That was due to the way the roads and trails are laid out in Saguaro National Park. AdventureEveryDay does not own or claim to own any of the music contained in this work.$ $Tucson to San Diego: 400 Miles Across the Desert Southwest From the heart of downtown Tucson to the shores of the Pacific, this 400-mile drive captures the dramatic evolution of the Southwest. The trip kicks off on I-10 westbound in Tucson, and as we continue on into the desert we pass the iconic silhouette of Picacho Peak before we transition to I-8 in Pinal County. From there, we drive Interstate 8 end-to-end as we head west across the vast Sonoran Desert toward Yuma, eventually crossing into California to witness the massive Imperial Sand Dunes. We stop here for an aerial perspective of the wind-sculpted sands before continuing our climb into the Cuyamaca Mountains. As we reach the higher elevations, the desert sun gives way to a sudden rain storm which turned into a Southern California snow storm. After navigating the mountain passes it continues to rain as we descend into San Diego where the sun comes out once again and we finish our trip at the Pacific Ocean. The video concludes with aerial views of the beaches and the city skyline as the sun dips toward the water.
