We upgraded my son's Haro Flightline 3x8 drivetrain to the Advent X 1x10 drivetrain with an 11-48 tooth cassette. The Microshift Advent X drivetrain is one of the more affordable drivetrain upgrades that you can do to a budget bike build. The whole drivetrain can be purchased for about $150.
