Great news for the Great Lakes! They have been named the first freshwater Hope Spot by Mission Blue. Hope Spots are special places across the globe that are recognized as scientifically critical to our ocean's health and designated for protection. The Great Lakes are critical to our planet's biodiversity, as they support over 3,500 plant and animal species and provide important services such as water purification and food production. By designating the Great Lakes as a Hope Spot, Shedd aims to raise awareness and advocate for protecting our waterways and reversing the decline in freshwater biodiversity.
