A New Piece of Shedd’s Future: Changing Oceans Tunnel Installation @sheddaquarium

Our remarkable tower crane recently lowered a 35-foot acrylic tunnel into the construction site where some of our most complex and innovative galleries to date are taking shape.

This tunnel will soon be home to a diverse and vibrant Caribbean reef, featuring new species like spotted eagle rays and old friends like Nickel, the rescued green sea turtle. It will also be one of several ocean biomes highlighted in Changing Oceans, a brand-new exhibit that will immerse millions of guests in the wonder of ocean habitats and encourage them to act for their protection!

$Stay Home with Shedd: The Great Lakes Welcome to episode five of Stay at Home With Shedd, we aren’t traveling too far as we deep dive into the Great Lakes. What makes the Great Lakes so great? What is the food web in the Great Lakes? What threats do the Great Lakes face? How can you help protect them? Let’s learn together! After you have watched the Great Lakes Stay at Home video, dive deeper into freshwater food webs with two accompanying standards-aligned, cross-curricular lessons. In one lesson, students use the video content as well as other research to write a play explaining the roles in food webs and its importance to an ecosystem. In the other lesson, looking further into conservation, students collect authentic data on freshwater mussels, convert measurements, manipulate fractions if they are ready and compare the data to previous years.
