In the early morning hours of 17 February 1970, US Army MPs responded to an emergency phone call from the house of Jeffrey MacDonald. When they arrived, they found a horrific scene: MacDonald's wife, Colette, and their daughters, Kimberly and Kristen had been brutally murdered. MacDonald himself had been apparently stabbed, and he stated that his family had been attacked by hippie intruders.
The Army's Crime Investigation Division (CID) did not believe MacDonald and charged him with murdering his family, but a botched investigation by the CID led to the charges being dismissed. It would take another 5 years before a new investigation, and the dogged determination of Colette's bereaved stepfather, Freddie Kassab, would finally bring MacDonald to justice. Or did it?
Note that this program was made in 1992. Jeffrey MacDonald has maintained his innocence and has repeatedly appealed his sentence, the last attempt being in 2017.
