Down the Brook
Approximate Film Date: July 1987
Much of my childhood was spent exploring the woods in back of my grandmother's house on Brook Circle in Hanover, Massachusetts. Eventually, my father would inherit this house, and so my connection to the thickly forested marshland would continue well into my teens. There is no doubt that at one point I could have navigated those pathways blindfolded. Even still, all these years later, I can still recall every twist and turn, every hill and large tree, every stone we would hop across to reach the other side of the brook that wound its way through it all.
I am glad now, that I chose to film this walk-through, on some boring Sunday afternoon when no one was around to join me, other than my dog, Meadow. I considered it then to be a waste of tape, but time and perspective have greatly altered that perception.
The shots have been cut together to the song "Ramshackle" by Beck.
