The Ancient Gods Part Two | Part 1: The World Spear
Let's recap. Previously on Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods...
Doom Slayer resurrected the Dark Lord in an act of defiance towards the Maykrs. Sadly things have gotten worse. The Dark Lord looks like Doom Slayer. The Heavens are now in ruins. Now the Slayer must head to Immora, the Capital City of Hell, in hopes of defeating The Dark Lord in ritual combat.
Should Doom Slayer win, all demons outside of hell will be no more and all connections to the dark realm will be severed. But should he fail, the Dark Lord and his armies will rule everything.
We now begin the first mission, The World Spear. Doom Slayer is determined to kill the Dark Lord. But the Dark Lord prefers that they settle things in Immora. So now we're on a journey to reach Immora and take his sorry butt out. So we must head for the Gate of Divum. But we need the Wraith's Crystal in order to reach it. First we need to light the Torch of Kings. It's also here we get good use of the Super Shotgun's Meat Hook. What for? We're using it as a Hookshot to hit Grapple Points so we can venture further. Oh goody. It's now borrowing stuff from Zelda. We also have new demons such as Screecher. We kill it and they buff other demons. So we got to kll them first then the Screechers. Too bad we never learned that lesson. We're going to need it to do some trials to light the torch of kings.
We also get new enemies to deal with such as the Armored Baron. These guys are annoying. It's also here we get a new melee weapon, the Sentinel Hammer. This beauty lets us be like Reinhardt and unleash a Hammer down. The Sentinel Hammer is useful for stunning enemies and reloading your ammo. But if you burn or freeze foes, you can boost your health or armor drops. You need to hit weak points and do glory kills to refill the charge so you can hammer down repeatedly. It's made fun and if used right, you can't possibly die. There are also escalation encounters where you fight waves of enemies. Completing one of them provides a buff for your Sentinel Hammer and completing it again will unlock a rare figure. After many battles, we reach the Torch of Kings. We need to light it in order for us to be granted passage to the World Spear. What follows is Doom Slayer riding atop a winged dragon towards another area. Now we got to cross the Nether Lake. This also means dealing with more demons and do some platforming. Yes, really.
After a lot of battling, we end up crossing through the Nether Lake itself and into a strange place where the World Spear is located. We do more platforming of course. Eventually we find that it's not a crystal at all. It's a ship. We also recover the crystal as well as a location of the Gate of Divum.
Our work is done. We continue in Part 2.
