Revelations | Part 1: Proving Grounds
The main campaign is finished but we're not done yet. Far from it.
Doom: The Dark Ages has DLC and it's DLC that feels like a return to form. But also, it's bittersweet because everyone involved in it got laid off. Welcome to the DLC for Doom: The Dark Ages, Revelations.
Revelations is the expansion to Doom: The Dark Ages. Compared to The Ancient Gods, this I feel was a satisfying experience. This takes place after the events of The Dark Ages. We also get a recap for good measure.
“After the betrayal of Bishop Kreed, doubt spreads through the ranks of the Night Sentinels. Sensing the threat of rebellion, the Khan Maykr, Mother-God of the faithful, returns from her dominion beyond Argent D'Nur. She seeks to restore order – and reclaim their faith.
With Hell weakened by the fall of Ahzrak, the Slayer moves to break its throne. Aided by Thira, a path to Hell's ruling order – the High Council – has been uncovered deep within the Dark Realm.
But the Council's chamber remains sealed... the Oracle holds the key.”
Now we begin the first mission, Proving Grounds. With the help of the Night Sentinels, we press on forward. But it's here that the Hell Priest gives us the Oracle. An artifact that may be of use for us. So much of our time is spent tearing demons apart left and right. Sadly the Night Sentinels can no longer help us due to a recent uprising that's going on. All the more for us to go solo am I right?
Using the Oracle gets the attention of the Khan Maykr and someone we've met before. But he seems silent and heads off. We do the same, heading into the Proving Grounds. We rip and tear demons apart as we head for the Council Chamber. After many battles, including a fight against the Agaddon Brute Champion, we reach the Council.
He uses the Oracle to open the door forward and it's here he encounters something from his past. And also, the High Council. Turns out the Slayer's soul had been tainted. Not just tainted but broken. The Hell Priest comes in telling him that beneath the chamber is his tomb. But he shoots the Hell Priest, kicks him and uses his Shield Saw to kill him. Taking offense, the High Council use their power to revive it, transforming it into The Henchman.
Something to note is that this fight so you have to die. Slayer loses the fight as the Henchman beats him down hard. His armor and shield saw are destroyed. The Henchman then take the Slayer to a far away place... the Council's prison to suffer eternal damnation, Purgatory.
What will happen now? We'll find out in Part 2 as we explore Purgatory and Hell's Core.
