Tim Bushe (akaTrim Bushe (@hedgecutterman on instagram)) studied sculpture, and then Architecture. He ran a successful Architectural practice in London before having a horrific motor bike accident about 6 years ago. As a sideline for the last 17 years he has become renown as a topiarist. His work to front gardens has become a tourist attraction in London, see it on Google maps, featuring 4.8 stars. All the money earned goes to charities. Tim sketches out what he proposes to do and then just gets into using his Stihl 45cm hedge cutters. The pieces, whether elephants , hippos, birds, cats, squirrels are usually a bit brown after their first cut but quickly they re green and look pretty great even after the first cut but then get fine tuned year after year. Tim reckons that works of iconic topiary like this have a habit of bringing neighbours and neighbourhoods together.
Bunny has used a lot of bird topiary in her own garden, some shaped herself and some from her late mother’s topiary nursery. Bunny talks about moving large pieces, good plants to grow.
