In this video Bunny explains why artificial fertilisers are in the main totally unnecessary in your garden. They are expensive, much is leached off into rivers and water courses with harmful effects. Additionally artificial fertilisers upset the natural balance of the soils microbiome.
General fertiliser is often 10:10:10 (N:P:K ratio), but actually what plants use is more like 3:1:2 ratio, so much is unused or leached away. Is fish, blood and bone worth it? What does it provide, mycorrhiza have been found when tested not to contain what they say they do, some are dead and some just not there and some have even been shown to reduce growth. Does Epsom’s Salt really do any good and is it worth getting your soil tested at a professional lab?
With our changing weather conditions we need to add lots of mulch to improve the water holding capacity and the drainage of the soil.
