In this video, Bunny visits Jim Keeling’s Whichford Pottery (and garden) on the day they are celebrating 50th anniversary. Jim shows Bunny his huge range of frost proof pots, tableware and ceramics plus his sculpture. Jim started making clay objects aged six, digging his own clay pit. Since then he has fine tuned and developed many aspects of pot making including different types of kiln, the clay, his designs and of course, the planting of the pots. He has made special pots for National Trust properties, Heston Blumenthal, various Chelsea gardens including one that Bunny designed for Portmeirion.
His garden has developed concurrently and is full of home made mud walls forming interesting spaces with covered areas, there is a roof garden, lots of topiary plus a veg garden for their restaurant. Bunny and Jim discuss the pros and cons of multi species versus single species planting, Jim shows Bunny his sketch books showing how he works the designs up, plus you can see the areas where they grow on hundreds of plants to fill the pots throughout the season. Based in the Cotswolds, the restaurant produces fabulous local food, the shop has a wide range of ceramics, pots plus a wide range of great gifts and you can also sign up for a pottery course. It is well worth a visit!
