MET : 1971 = The American Musical Instrument Society (AMIS) is formed "to promote study of the history, design, and use of musical instruments in all cultures and from all periods" (the branch of musicology known as organology). Based in the United States, it publishes a journal and a newsletter, holds annual conferences (occasionally in conjunction with the Galpin Society), maintains an active website and e-mail forum, and presents five awards. DON COSTA
Don" Costa was an American pop music arranger and record producer, best known for his work with Frank Sinatra.
It was at ABC Paramount Records that Costa accepted the position of head A&R man as well as chief arranger and producer in the late 1940s. Many hits were to follow, eg with Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme, but also with Lloyd Price, George Hamilton IV and Paul Anka. Apart from his arranging skills, Costa was an excellent guitarist and during the period 1956 - 1957 he released two 45s on ABC-Paramount using the alias Guitar 'Muvva' Hubbard,
He was voted number one in Cash Box as the most popular recording arranger and conductor. It was at this time in late 1959 that Costa, along with Lawrence and Gorme, left ABC to join the United Artists label as A&R Director. Costa continued to produce and arrange for others as well as release his own instrumental albums.
Costa found several of his own instrumental recordings becoming hits, including the theme tunes from Never on Sunday and The Unforgiven. "Never on Sunday" sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc.
SOCIETY'S CHILD
Society's Child (Baby I've Been Thinking)" is a song written in 1965 by Janis Ian. Ian was 13 years old when she was motivated to write the song and completed it when she was 14 years old.
"Society's Child" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001.

Don Costa succeeds in creating a subtle and special mood, the same kind of 'feeling' that can be found in the Ian original.
Wonderful guitar play, a fine strings orchestration and a "magical" entry of the brass in the second part of the track.
