History of Sound Recording ♪♪♪ Year 1878
In 1878 Thomas Edison perfected the "phonograph" - a device that expanded on the principles of the phonautograph. This phonograph was a device with a cylinder covered with an impressionable material such as tin foil, lead, or wax on which a stylus etched grooves. The depth of the grooves made by the stylus corresponded to change in air pressure created by the original sound. The recording could be played back by tracing a needle through the groove and amplifying, through mechanical means, the resulting vibrations.
ORQUESTA VERGARA
The “Orquesta Vergara” was named after an important 60s pop label, located in Barcelona, Spain.
Through Vergara many Spanish pop singers recorded their songs, with the Vergara Orchestra providing the musical background. The Orquesta Vergara also recorded some instrumental albums, most of which were released at the end of the 60s decade.
SHAME AND SCANDAL
The song is a calypso and reggae classic, and was written for the movie" I Walked with a Zombie" in 1943. The original title was "Fort Holland Calypso Song".
Credit for the composition is given to L Melody and S Lancelot, both Trinidad born musicians.
Famous cover versions were issued by Shawn Elliott (1964) and Peter Tosh (in 1965).
French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian versions were made during the 60s and 70s.

Happy vibes are provided by The Vergara Orchestra this time, who bring us a nicely arranged version of "Shame and Scandal in the Family" - a song which most of us will situate in the sixties, though the original song was already published in 1943 !
The opening phrases of this orchestration are - in mho - superbly arranged and initiate a "taste for more" with the listener.
