Well, I love the opportunity to define new things, make discoveries that are important to society, make discoveries that are important to humans, and to benefit people in many different ways, particularly with regard to their health and well-being. My name is Don Brown. I'm the Quantitative Foundation Distinguished Professor of Data Science in the School of Data Science. I'm also the W.S. Calcott Professor of Systems and Information Engineering in the School of Engineering. And I do research on data integration and data fusion, which is bringing data from a variety of different modalities together to better understand phenomena, and these phenomena can be in areas like medicine and security and safety. So my research impacts human health by taking data from a variety of different sources and sensors in order to understand disease states and treatments. For instance, we can take data from imaging, which could be imaging from an MRI, for instance. We can take data from processes, which could be things like heart rate. It can be heart rate variability. We can also take data from RNA-seq, from genomic data, and we can put it all together to better understand those disease states, and what kind of treatments are working most effectively against those diseases.
