I feel like it has been waaay too long since I have shown off any kind of Playstation 1 Harry Potter Speedrun on this channel and since I am aware that this game is the childhood of many people as well I thought it's time to bring it back with a bang finally! Because not only will we do a Speedrun of the game again but it will be in a very special category called "Superspeed%"! And the idea behind this run is that we allow the use of the "Superspeed Cheat" giving Harry a ton of additional walking speed whenever you are running around in the castle!
But not only does this make the default running faster, it also enabled a couple of very interesting tricks and skips and clearing gaps that you would usually never be able to jump across. And of course that basically equates to a lot of sequence breaks if you are a speedrunner wanting to beat the game fast. Following the intended order of level is very much optional in a category like that so i hope you are ready to see your childhood game turned upside-down and get broken in half by some really cool tricks and route changes!
And the best part of all of this is that this category even has an official leaderboard on Speedrun.com so we don't just do this for the fun and for Memeruns, we can also get onto a completely new board and hopefully claim a relatively free Top 10 position in the process! That prospect very much motivated me to learn this run properly and to grind it down to a time that I would be happy with overall. But did we succeed in that or was I disappointed with the final time in this run? We have done a good couple of Max% runs recently with an additional ruleset put on top (like a different language or One-Hit KO) but now its honestly time again for a good old classic Max% Speedrun going for a valid time and PB! And especially the valid time aspect is a lot easier said than done in this run since the rules basically involve doing EVERYTHING you could think of in this game which means there are also some things that are easy to forget and miss.
Especially the Trigger All Cutscenes rule is very easy to accidentally break, there are just a ton of small and non-story cutscenes in this game that the devs kind of added in there to make the immersion better and for some great world building. So there were a lot of things to remember especially in the early game of the run! On top of that we of course have to collect everything, cast onto everything, do the normal 100% stuff and even buy items once at every trader in the game!
I absolutely love doing those Max% runs though, they always very much remind me of a casual childhood attempt just walking around interacting with and discovering everything I possibly could back then and it also leads us through a good couple of areas that we havent seen in a while since the Speedrun route doesnt go past it. Always a blast to be doing those, I have to redo that concept again in both Harry Potter 1 (PC) and Harry Potter 3 (PC) again soon as well!
