Can the moon really influence how our vegetables grow? In this video, I’m observing celeriac sown before and after the full moon to see if there’s any visible difference. It’s not a controlled experiment — just a kind of exploratory video, comparing plants in real garden conditions here on my no dig beds.

The first batch was sown two days before the full moon, often said to be a favourable time for growth. As in this ten year study
books.google.co.uk/books/about/The_Moon_and_the_Growth_of_Plants_With_7.html?id=p4U_AAAAYAAJ&redir_esc=y

The second was sown six days later, after the full moon, and they’re looking a bit smaller and in a slightly different shape. At this stage, it’s actually quite hard to get firm evidence, because there are so many variables, so I’ll follow this one up when we harvest.
I also show how the celeriac leaves are still very healthy and green, meaning they can keep putting on quite a bit of weight even into November, and share why I now do less de-leafing, as the leaves aren’t really getting in the way or attracting slugs.

Main takeaways (all from this video):
- Celeriac sown before the full moon look a little bigger so far
- It’s difficult to get firm evidence because there are many variables
- Later-sown celeriac look smaller and slightly different in shape
- Healthy leaves show there’s still growth potential into November
- De-leafing isn’t always necessary — the leaves stay green and helpful

I’ll keep an eye on both batches and share an update at harvest, to see how much these early differences really matter.
