Commodore billed the VIC-20 as "The Friendly Computer" right on the front of the box. However, my VIC-20 still isn't being friends with me... though at least I figured out that my scaler and the VIC-20 are outright frenemies.
While the MOS 6560 (aka the VIC chip) may be bad, the colors are almost correct when I viewed the video output with a composite monitor. The corrupted characters were still present, so something else is also defective... one thing I haven't tried is the memory, so before I forget this idea, I'm going to try swapping memory chips to see if the issue changes.
Will it play great games? Will it have cost me under $300 by the time I have it fixed? Will I figure out what's wrong with the original VIC-20 motherboard? Will I fry a 6560 in the process? You'll have to watch to find out!
