Is it God's fault when we sin? It might seem so when we read what Jesus said in the "Lord's Prayer" in Matthew 6.

And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one . . . (Matthew 6:13)

Why are we supposed to ask God not to lead us into temptation? Is it because He does tempt us? That doesn’t seem like a very loving God—tempt us then punish us for it.

Then we also have this verse:

Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God;" for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. (James 1:13)

There are a few things to notice:

First, Matthew 6:13 does not explicitly say that God does tempt us to sin.
Second, the whole verse is about keeping us from the temptation of evil.
Third, there are different kinds of temptation.
