Do you feel like you are shaping your life, or simply reacting to circumstances?

One of the most important questions a person can ask is whether they see themselves as a helpless victim of events or as an empowered agent capable of shaping their character, choices, and destiny. Judaism teaches that human beings are not passive observers of their lives. We have the power of free choice, the ability to shape who we become through the decisions we make.

In this short insight, Chief Rabbi Dr Warren Goldstein explores the idea of personal agency and the profound question at the heart of human freedom: are we victims of circumstance, or authors of our own lives?

This is part of a short series on free choice, responsibility, and the power each person has to shape their future.
