Even with over 20 credit cards, I was able to achieve an 800+ credit score in my 20s by following this blueprint. Having a great credit score close to 800 will get you the best rates on loans and ultimately save you the most money, and that's what we are all about.

Most of us don't just have millions of dollars lying around, so we likely need loans for things like homes and cars. When you borrow money, you have to pay an interest rate to your lender. The higher your credit score, the lower the interest rate you can get for your loan. A high credit score shows lenders that you are a responsible borrower, and this can save you thousands of dollars.

Payment History (35%), Credit Utilization (30%), Length of Credit History (15%), Number of Inquiries (10%), Types of Credit (10%). For your payment history, just making sure you pay on time, AND IN FULL EVERY SINGLE MONTH SO YOU DON'T PAY THOSE RIDICULOUS INTEREST RATES. For your credit utilization, just making sure that you aren't using all of your available credit every single month. That's why opening up credit cards can help your utilization, because if you have a bunch of available credit, but only use 1% of it, it helps this big part of your score. Length of credit history is relatively self explanatory, that's why opening no annual fee credit cards early on can really help you because you can keep that line of credit open forever with no real financial downside to it. For number of inquiries, just be sure you aren't trying to open a credit card or apply for a loan every single day, that just looks like you desperately need money. This is a temporary ding on your score, but if you space it out a few months at a time, it'll bounce back up. Types of credit, just having that variety whether that be a home loan, car loan, credit cards, etc. Just proving that you have different ways of paying people back.

In general, all you want to do, is make sure you pay on time and in full, open up a few credit cards a few months apart, and keep no annual fee lines of credit open forever so your history continues to grow. Treat your credit cards like a debit card, and maybe you can join in on the fun of credit card points and miles just like me in the future.
