The Chase Trifecta is the best starter travel credit card strategy out there. As someone with 22 credit cards who has the Amex Trifecta and the Citi Trifecta, I can honestly say that, for the price, the Chase Trifecta is what I would recommend most people to start at if they want to get into credit card points and miles.

The Chase Freedom Unlimited is one of the best credit cards out there and there's no annual fee. It gives you 3x back on dining and drug stores and 1.5x back on all other purchases. This will be your major workhorse card for the Chase Trifecta. And at no annual fee, there's no downside. It also should give you a great sign up bonus of 20,000 chase points.

The Chase Freedom Flex is another no annual fee card. The perk of this card is that every quarter (3 months), you get 5x back on certain categories. You should also get a 20,000 point sign up bonus as well, so you should be able to get a bunch of points without paying a dime in annual fees with these two cards.

If you only have the two no annual fee cards, you can't actually do anything with the points beside cash them out for cash back. You need to have one of the Chase Sapphire cards (the Chase Sapphire Preferred or the Chase Sapphire Reserve) in order to transfer points to airline and hotel partners to get the true value of the cards. This is where card 3 comes in.

For me, especially for starters, the Chase Sapphire Preferred is the best card to get to complete the Chase Trifecta. Typically it has the same or bigger sign up bonus than the Sapphire Reserve, and a much lower annual fee that'll help introduce you to the travel game. The multipliers are very similar to the chase freedom unlimited, so you would really only use this card for travel expenses at 2x back.

To me, Chase has the best transfer partners for people in the US and the ability to transfer points to Hyatt makes the hotel game so much better with Chase. You can book great hotels for 10% of the points at other hotel brands like Marriott and Hilton, so as long as you can find a Hyatt near your destination, its the best value. You also have good ways with Chase to venture out into other airline or hotel cards, and the Chase 5/24 rule does make it a good place to start if you want to dive into the travel game like me.
