I just sent Powerless off to my beta readers, and I'm expecting their thoughts, along with my editor's feedback by the end of the month. One of the things I said to everyone was, 'let me know if there's any hope' and, while I was being tongue-in-cheek, there was some truth to the statement - I'm a new writer, and I'm not sure whether my work's at the standard it should be.

Everyone has responded by assuring me that they're sure it's good, which makes me wonder - does talking about my book in this way (even jokingly) mean I have poor self-esteem, or low confidence, when it comes to my writing?

Let me know what you think! Are you the type of person to talk yourself and your work up to boost your confidence? Or do you wait to give yourself credit, trusting that confidence will build over time as you improve?
