Welcome to this Learning Mole video!
In this video, we are going to learn about mollusks and if all mollusks have shells.
Mollusks are a group of animals that includes creatures like snails, clams, and even octopuses. Now, you might be thinking, "Snails and clams have shells, so all mollusks must have shells, right?" Well, not exactly.
It's true that many mollusks have shells. These shells are usually hard and help protect the animal inside, kind of like a built-in shield. For example, a snail has a shell that it can retreat into if it feels threatened.
However, not all mollusks have shells. Think about an octopus or a slug. These are types of mollusks too, but they don't have hard shells like a snail or a clam. Instead, they have soft bodies. Some of these mollusks might have small internal shells or tough, leathery outer coverings, but they don't have the kind of hard, protective shell that a snail or a clam has.
So, in answer to your question, while many mollusks do have shells, not all of them do. It's part of what makes the animal kingdom so diverse and interesting!
