The exponential growth of global data has posed unprecedented challenges to traditional silicon-based storage technologies. DNA exhibits unparalleled advantages, including ultra-high storage density, long-term stability, and near-zero energy consumption for preservation. However, current DNA storage systems are confined to laboratory-scale centralized “cold data” archiving, lacking the mobility and portability required for on-site data access, distribution, and dynamic management. This limitation significantly restricts the expansion of DNA storage’s application scenarios and the establishment of its industrial ecosystem. In this presentation, we will introduce the latest progress of our laboratory’s microfluidics-based mobile DNA data storage device, as well as the current challenges and future development directions of portable DNA data storage devices.
