Today we will reuse/repurpose our old Bangalore silk saree and create a trending high end fashion. We will create Skirt / Lehenga and Choli/top from saree.
This video will discuss about the drafting and cutting of the umbrella skirt/lehenga from the Bangalore silk saree.
Lets begin with measurements:
Total Length 39 inch
Hip round 43 inch
Waist round 36 inch
Tip: Always wash and iron your lining cloth before drafting and cutting. Because it shrinks once washed. So, if you do vice versa you will end up with inch smaller shrink clothes. “Honey I shrink the clothes “
Keep the cloth in 4 fold and folded section at towards yourself. We will deduct 1.5 inch for elastic length belt and 2 inch for border. Total deduction will be 3.5 inch so remaining length is 35.5 inch. We will add 1.5 inch for seam allowance at bottom for attaching the border at flare end and half inch for seam allowance at top for attaching elastic. So, final length that we would be working on is 38 inch.
Lining cloth is always kept 2.5 inch shorter then main fabric. So, we will keep the length as 38 inch as we have already reduced 3.5 inch.
We will begin with hip round that is 43 with 2 inch loosing, total would be 45 inch. And add 2 inch loosing for additional comfort. And mark at 11.25 inch because the cloth is in 4 fold.
We will now shift to main fabric. And begin with hip round i.e. 11.25 inch. Keeping the cloth In triangular form also known as “Samosa Fold” Yummy. As my fabric in not wide enough so I will put remaining cloth with added margin of half inch and draft it as same.
