G'day everyone.
Back in the workshop with another real world problem that I need to tackle. I need tome sheet metal bent for a garden bed, and a lot of brackets that I need to make for a future project. Only problem is that I do not have a bender. The thin sheet metal really doesn't need a dedicated bender, but the brackets do if I want them to look nice and be consistent.
I have also been in need to a sheet metal bender for some time. Bending sheet metal is not something I do often, but I have had to do it on maybe 10 occasions over the past 5 years, and simply scoring the metal and bending in the metal in the vise can work, but it is never as clean, risks cutting through with the grinder, leads to weaker parts and only works on small bits of sheet metal.
Now this bender that I am making today is in no way the end all and be all in terms of design and functionality. But it is a simple bender that you can put together over the course of a few afternoons (2 or 3) and the total cost should not be more than $30 or $40. It is not perfect, but it bends sheet metal and does a great job at doing so, and you will see this pop up in future projects.
