I had so much fun bringing this idea to fruition. This happiness-inducing nightlight is in my daughter’s bedroom and it always makes her cheerful.
You might think this is very complicated but I assure you, it’s not. Just follow along the instructions and have fun. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments and I’d be happy to help.
DIY Nightlight Instructions:
—Apply alcohol inks on foam brush
— Just a few drops will do
— Add a few drops of isopropyl alcohol
— Take the saturated foam brush and drag on dura-lar
— Add more alcohol if the brush starts drying up
— Add some drops of alcohol ink in random spots
— Use a micro-applicator to create smaller dots
— Repeat the process with different colors
— Cut out triangles using a die or scissors
— There should be a total of 20 triangles
— I have four colors. Five triangles in each color.
— Arrange the triangles to form this pattern
— We are making a polyhedron with 20 faces
— This shape is called an icosahedron
— Use Grafix double tack mounting film to stick all triangle edges
— Fold each triangle inwards to score the tape
— Next, stick the remaining triangle edges together
— Put the fairy lights in before closing up the icosahedron
— Stick the fairy lights to the double tack mounting film
— Finish closing up the icosahedron
— Your colorful nightlight is ready
