Inside a plain cardboard box at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City are the remains of a large prehistoric dog that was found wrapped in a fishing net in a cave in the 1950s. The bones, which are roughly 6,300 years old, show evidence of a broken hind leg but also of an animal that was well cared for by human handlers.
