This underwater cavern northwest of Las Vegas and east of Death Valley is home to protected pupfish, whose habitat was spared by the U.S. Supreme Court upon discovery that area farmers were tapping into underground springs linked to the cavern. Access to the cavern is limited to scientists and government divers, but the hole is so deep no one alive has yet seen the bottom.
