The Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park in the Shoshone Mountains in northwestern Nye County is home to the state fossil, representing a large marine reptile that disappeared some 90 million years ago. Miners in the town of Berlin discovered the fossils early in the 20th century, and the remains were declared a national natural landmark in 1973.
