A baseball game... ended in a riot.

On July 12, 1979, thousands of fans packed Chicago's Comiskey Park for **Disco Demolition Night**, a promotion where spectators received discounted admission by bringing a disco record to be destroyed between games of a doubleheader.

After the records were blown up in center field, chaos erupted.

Fans stormed the field, tore up the grass, stole bases, climbed the foul poles, and overwhelmed stadium security. The damage was so severe that the Chicago White Sox were forced to forfeit the second game to the Detroit Tigers.

What began as a publicity stunt became one of the most infamous promotions in sports history and remains a defining moment of the late-1970s backlash against disco music.
