Every day in EU waters, fish are caught and illegally thrown back dead. Almost no one is watching.

In European waters, a hidden form of overfishing is taking place on an industrial scale. It's called highgrading: fishing vessels catch more than they're allowed and discard the excess overboard to make room for more profitable catch. It's illegal under both EU and UK law. But without cameras on board, it's almost impossible to prove.

Our film exposes how this wasteful and destructive practice is undermining ocean ecosystems, undercutting honest fishers, and going largely unpunished. The solution, we argue, is transparency, through mandatory Remote Electronic Monitoring, including CCTV, on all high-risk pelagic vessels across EU and UK waters.
