Today, I’m joined by the wonderful Mr. Jim Pennock – who’s been a key figure at DigiTech, DOD and in the musical instrument industry for over 40 years – to talk the brand’s relaunch, his favorite products, the new Badder Monkey, and more!

Jim’s been at DigiTech since the company’s earliest beginnings, and he’s spearheaded so many of DigiTech and DOD’s household name products since then: the Whammy pedal, the Bad Monkey, the Hammer On, the iStomp, the Space Station, various iterations of the DOD 250 overdrive, and more.
I was lucky enough to get to spend some time with Jim at 42 Gear Street Seven in Germany this summer, and I took the time to ask him as much as I could about his life in the business, his personal favorites of the products he’s been involved in, and his plans and ideas for the future of the recently relaunched and reinvigorated Digitech/DOD.
We also go through a couple of the brands’ hottest new pedals: the DOD Badder Monkey – successor to the legendary Bad Monkey, recently re-popularized by Josh Scott at JHS Pedals – and the MonoNeon Whammy, the newest version of the game changing pitch shifter pedal.
I realized during this interview that we’d actually need at least two or three hours to hear all of Jim’s stories and check out the pedals in the detail they deserve, but hopefully we’ll get the chance to meet again to do that soon!
