Precision non-destructive scanning using handheld 3D structured scanners helps preserve ancient Ogham writing at risk of destruction due to weathering.
Artec Eva was used to reveal and preserve Ogham inscriptions, the early Irish alphabet from at least the 5th century. Previously Ogham inscriptions were recorded using drawings and conventional photography.
The project is supported by Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, the Heritage Council of Ireland and the National Museum of Ireland amongst others. Dr. Nora White is the principle investigator.
